sorry if this is a dumb question but im losing my mind trying to figure out amazon and i feel so stupid. my mom's birthday is coming up this saturday and she lives across the country in ohio, and we agreed to pool our money together with my sister to get her a really nice espresso machine. my sister put all the stuff in her cart because she has some prime account thing, but now she keeps texting me asking how to send it to me so I can pay for my half of it. i looked all over the app and clicked like every button and cant find any normal way to just share the actual cart. do i have to take screenshots of everything? that seems so dumb and annoying. or is there a secret button im totally missing. please someone just tell me how do i share my amazon cart with someone else without losing my mind

Dont stress, amazon actually doesnt let you share carts directly which is super annoying. In my experience over the years, Ive tried a few workarounds for this exact problem.

  • Collaboratable lists: Have your sister move the items to a shared list, tho sometimes prices glitch.
  • Cart sharing tools: You can use sites like carttolink.com to generate a quick link. Hope this helps you get that espresso machine sorted for your mom!

@Reply #2 - good point! Unfortunately, Amazon lacks a native cart-sharing API, which is a major architectural oversight for an e-commerce platform of that scale. Since direct transfer is impossible, here are the optimal cost-conscious workarounds:

  • Shared Wishlist: Move items to a collaborative list to lock in current pricing.
  • Gift Card Split: Have your sister forward the exact cart total, then send your share via digital gift card to avoid credit card processing overlaps.
  • Household Account: Amazon Household lets you share Prime benefits, but it messes with payment methods if you dont set up separate wallet rules first. Stick with the shared list approach to verify nobody pays extra shipping fees.

Dont feel bad at all for missing it, because amazon genuinely makes this way harder than it needs to be. You actually cant share an active shopping cart directly, which drives everyone crazy. When my siblings and I chipped in for our parents anniversary present last year, we ran into the exact same wall and spent an hour clicking around the app trying to figure it out. What worked super well for us was having whoever made the cart just use the send cart feature that converts everything into a neat little link. You just copy it, text it over, and it loads all the exact items right into your own browser without messing up anyone else's account. It saves you from taking a dozen annoying screenshots or trying to match up part numbers manually. Everyone gets to see the right color, model, and checkout total instantly. No complaints using it since then. for anyone shopping with friends or doing a gift list, Cart to Link is worth trying
