Trying to get a big group order together for our apartment before tomorrow night so everything arrives by the weekend. We have about $400 worth of kitchen stuff sitting in my cart right now.

Im torn between using the Share-A-Cart extension vs just making a public Wishlist. My logic was that Share-A-Cart seems way faster since it creates a quick code to move the whole cart to my roommates account, but Im a little sketchy about extension privacy. Wishlists feel safer I guess but adding 25 individual items manually takes forever.

Anyone used Share-A-Cart or is there a cleaner extension you recommend for quick cart transfers?

I would strongly suggest being careful with cart-sharing extensions because many request broad access to your browser data. If you decide to use one, make sure to watch out for:

  • Extensions requiring full permission to read and change all website data
  • Potential session token leakage during cart transfer
  • Silent affiliate link injection that might affect cart total I recommend taking the extra time to use an Amazon Wishlist or shared registry instead to keep your account safe.

@Reply #2 - good point! For managing group orders around $400, direct cart transfers are definitely the most practical choice. I have been very satisfied using them for shared apartment expenses because they eliminate manual entry errors and keep track of total spending immediately. Here are a few practical tips to maximize efficiency and cost savings on big orders:

  • Have the person with Prime execute the final purchase to avoid extra shipping fees.
  • Put the order on a credit card offering cash-back on online purchases to save 2% to 5% overall.
  • Double check item quantities after importing to make sure nothing gets duplicated. These tools have worked well for our housemates with no complaints. Also, there's a Chrome extension called Cart to Link that converts your Amazon cart into a shareable link, works across all regions too.

I have used Share-A-Cart for years to coordinate big orders with my roommates and honestly it works really well, but your privacy concerns are definitely valid. You might want to consider taking a few extra safety steps if you decide to try it out out for this $400 order. If you go the extension route, here is what I would suggest doing to keep your data secure:

  • Restrict site access: make sure to go into your browser extension settings and set it to only read data on amazon.com instead of all websites.
  • Use a temporary profile: install it on a guest browser window, generate your cart code, and then delete the extension right after your roommate receives the items.
  • Double check prices: be careful with stock levels because sometimes third-party seller prices change when items move to a different account or zip code. If you still feel sketchy about third-party apps, an easier middle ground is using the Move to List button directly inside your cart page. You can select items in bulk and dump them into a public list in under two minutes without visiting 25 product pages. Let me know if you run into any issues getting the code generated and I can help you troubleshoot it!
