Ugh, finally upgrading from my crusty iPhone 11 that literally dies if I look at it wrong, and Im kinda stressing about the new 17e. My biggest thing is the battery—it drains so fast right now—so I really need a reliable MagSafe setup for my desk. I saw some people swear by the Belkin 3-in-1, but then others were saying it gets way too hot? My logic was that more expensive means better, but Im honestly just confused. Should I just get the Apple one or is that a total waste of money? I really need something that wont mess up the battery health long-term. What are you guys using for yours?

Look, listen, stop worrying about the brand name on the box. You're overthinking the electronics. I’ve spent twenty-five years wrenching on engines—I know heat is the enemy of any system, whether it’s a cooling loop in a motor or the lithium-ion cells in your phone. If a charger is running hot, it’s inefficient, plain and simple. You don't need to drop a fortune on an Apple logo to keep your battery healthy; you need something that manages power draw properly so you aren't cooking the internals. I swapped to the Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Charging Station a few months back. It’s solid, doesn't dance around on my workbench, and the magnet strength is actually decent—it doesn't just slide off if you nudge it. The reason I like it? It doesn't push current like a madman once the phone hits 80%. That’s where you kill your battery health, by the way—fast-charging to 100% every single night under heat stress. If you want to keep that 17e running like a top for years, keep it cool. Don't waste money on overpriced gear that does the exact same job. Bolt it down, keep the connections clean, and don't overcomplicate the simple stuff. It’s a charger, not a transmission rebuild. Keep it simple.

Agree with everyone else on the heat issue—this comes up a lot here. Honestly, if you want a reliable desk setup that wont fry your phone, grab the Twelve South Forté for iPhone. It feels premium without the Apple tax and the open design actually lets the back of the phone breathe. Just dont leave it in direct sunlight while charging and you will be fine. Battery health is 90% about avoiding extreme temps anyway.

> "It doesn't push current like a madman once the phone hits 80%. That’s where you kill your battery health." That is exactly right. I agree completely regarding the heat management. Just make sure that whatever stand you choose has some form of active or passive ventilation, as heat buildup is the primary cause of premature capacity loss in lithium-ion batteries. I always double-check the placement of my charger to ensure there is adequate airflow around the back of the device while it sits on the stand. If you notice the phone feeling excessively warm to the touch during a cycle, stop using that specific charger immediately. I would recommend getting a thermal monitor check done if you are not sure your current setup is safe. Better to be cautious with hardware that costs this much.
