Finally upgrading from my beat-up iPhone 12 Mini—the battery is basically a potato now and I’ve cracked the screen twice already. I’m super anxious about this new 17e because it’s supposed to be so thin, and I’m terrified of snapping it. My logic was to look at the Spigen Tough Armor, but some people on Reddit say the kickstand hinge breaks easily on the newer models. I also checked out the Otterbox Symmetry, but I’m worried it’ll just make the phone feel like a literal brick, which defeats the point of getting a slim device. I need to stay under $45ish and really need something with a grippy texture. Does a 'thin-but-actually-protective' case even exist for this one?

Oh man, this is exactly my thing — I’ve spent way too much time obsessing over drop-test ratings and TPU density. Since the 17e is basically a wafer compared to your old Mini, you definitely want to avoid the 'brick' feel. 1. Grab the Speck Presidio2 Grip. I’ve dropped my gear on concrete more times than I’d like to admit, and those inverted grip lines — wait, they changed the material recently to be more 'soft-touch' — anyway, they are incredible for one-handed stability and it's usually around $35.

  • Try the Spigen Liquid Air. It’s way more low-profile than the Tough Armor and avoids that flimsy kickstand issue — plus the geometric pattern on the back is surprisingly grippy for being so thin. Bottom line is you can definitely find that 'thin-but-safe' sweet spot without it feeling like you're carrying luggage.

ngl i spent way too much testing cases last year and realized the expensive brands are lowkey a ripoff... i used to only buy the $50+ stuff but then i found these:

  • Ringke Onyx iPhone 17e is legit under $20 and the granulate texture is SO grippy you dont even need a pop-socket.
  • Caseology Athlex iPhone 17e has cool integrated foam layers for drops but stays THIN. saves you a ton of cash tbh...
