What months usually have the biggest discounts on standing desks? I finally saved up enough to upgrade my work from home setup here in Chicago and Im super excited to get my very first electric desk! But honestly I have no idea how furniture sales work or when companies drop their prices. My budget is pretty tight at around $300 to $350 max so every dollar counts. Is it better to wait for Black Friday in November, or are there big New Year sales in January? Or maybe Labor Day? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just dont want to pull the trigger now and regret it next month...

@Reply #1 - good point! November is best, but unfortunately cheap single-motor desks had wobble issues in my experience. Safer budget options:

  • Manual crank frames
  • Refurbished dual-motor models Ask if you need help!

November definitely has the highest raw statistical discount depth for standing desks, with average price cuts around 25 to 30 percent across major direct-to-consumer brands. Labor Day in September and July Prime sales usually sit around 15 percent. If you are buying around the $300 to $350 ceiling, here is how the specs break down for the three main categories you will see on sale:

  • Single-motor complete desks: Usually priced $200-$260. Pros: cheap, includes desktop. Cons: lift capacity maxes out around 154-176 lbs, lift speed is slow at under 1 inch per second, and single driveshaft setups wear out faster if weight is off-center.
  • Dual-motor frame-only units: Usually drops to $280-$330 on Black Friday. Pros: dual motors handle 220+ lbs, travel speed hits 1.4 inches per second, dual stage legs provide significantly better lateral stability above 40 inches tall. Cons: you need to source your own tabletop (like an IKEA Linnmon or butcher block).
  • Big-box commercial models: Brands sold at office supply outlets often hit $300 during holiday blowouts. Pros: solid 5-year warranties, hassle-free returns, includes desktop. Cons: basic memory controllers and limited height range (often stops at 47 inches). If you want to track live retail drops, checking an Office Depot price tracker or setting browser alerts for specific model numbers during late October lets you catch early bird sales before stock runs low.

Over the years tracking hardware data, November during Black Friday yields the deepest discounts, typically 20 to 30 percent off MSRP on quality dual-motor frames. Late January is a close second with New Year wellness promotions. At your $350 budget, I recommend setting alerts on PriceDropCatch to track historical price floors so you buy right when the price drops.
