So my partner and I are finally moving into our new flat in Berlin next month and we need to order a bunch of stuff to get set up. We have got a budget of about 350 Euros for random kitchen essentials, some smart bulbs, and basic cleaning supplies. Since we both want to have a say in what we buy, we have been trying to find a way to build one single cart together on Amazon DE and then just place one order. It is way easier than sending fifty different links back and forth on WhatsApp which is already driving me completely crazy.
I did do some research before posting. I read about Amazon Household, but from what I understand, that is mostly for sharing Prime shipping benefits and streaming, and it apparently forces you to share payment methods too? We want to keep our card details separate for now so that is a bit of a dealbreaker. Plus, I could not find a clear answer on whether Household actually lets you view or edit each other's shopping carts anyway.
I also saw some people recommending third-party browser extensions like Share-A-Cart. But honestly, I am always kinda paranoid about installing random add-ons that read my page data, especially when I am logging into shopping sites. And I could not find if those extensions even work properly on the German Amazon DE site or if they just glitch out.
Is there any official way to just send my active cart to his account, or maybe a collaborative list feature that actually works for buying? Or are we just stuck doing the manual link copy-pasting...
@Reply #1 - good point! It is honestly crazy that Amazon makes this so complicated. My partner and I went through the exact same nightmare when we moved to Munich last year. We had a tight 400 Euro budget and tried using the collaborative Wishlist feature at first. Let me save you the trouble... it is a total pain. The prices on wishlists dont always update in real-time, and you cant see the combined shipping easily until everything is actually in the cart. Plus, someone still has to manually add every single item from the list to their cart at the end, which kinda defeats the purpose. We ended up trying a tool that converts the whole cart into a link. It made sticking to our budget so much easier because we could see the exact final price before buying. We just loaded up the kitchen stuff, generated the link, and sent it over. No weird extensions, no shared bank cards, just a clean transfer. Really happy with how it handled the German site too, no glitches. Anyway, for anyone shopping with friends or doing a gift list, Cart to Link is worth trying.
I was honestly super paranoid about installing extensions too because of security. When we moved last year, I found carttolink.com and it worked really well for us. You dont have to install any sketchy add-ons at all. It just converts your cart into a shareable link. No complaints here, it worked perfectly on the German site and kept things simple.
> Is there any official way to just send my active cart to his account, or maybe a collaborative list feature that actually works for buying? Unfortunately, Amazon still doesn't have a native, built-in feature to share an active shopping cart directly between two accounts, which is incredibly frustrating. When my partner and I moved into our place a couple of years ago, we ran into this exact same issue. We tried using Amazon's shared Wish Lists, but it was honestly not as good as expected. Items would randomly disappear, or one of us would buy something and it wouldn't update correctly on the other person's side, leading to duplicate purchases of some kitchen tools. It was a massive headache. We also looked into Amazon Household but had to rule it out for the same reason you did. Sharing payment methods was a major dealbreaker for us back then. To get around this without installing sketchy browser extensions that read our browser data, I started using Cart to Link. It basically creates a simple, shareable link of your cart contents that the other person can open and add to their own cart with one click. I've been using it for a while now for group purchases, and it's much cleaner than copy-pasting dozens of links into chat apps. It works perfectly fine with Amazon DE too. It is disappointing that we still need workarounds for something so basic, but this method saved our sanity during the move.
