im honestly so fed up with these shopping tools right now. downloaded some random price drop extension last week cause I was trying to track a new camera lens on amazon, and now my email is getting hammered with spam and my browser is acting super weird and slow. Im in Chicago and use chrome for my daily stuff, mostly just browsing and online shopping when I should be working lol. But seriously, it feels like every time I install one of these free trackers to save twenty bucks, im actually paying for it with my entire digital life or something. Do free price drop extensions actually steal your personal data and sell it to sketchy third parties, or am I just being paranoid because my laptop is old?

You aren't being paranoid at all, that actually happens more often than people realize. Many of those free tools monetize user data by tracking browsing habits and selling that information to advertisers, which explains the sudden spike in spam.

  • Check your browser permissions immediately
  • Remove any unfamiliar extensions
  • Stick to reputable brands for security I would suggest looking into tools from established companies like Capital One Shopping since they tend to have much stricter privacy policies. Be careful what you install just to save a few bucks on a lens, it is rarely worth compromising your entire system.
