Finally upgrading from my beat-up iPhone 13—the battery is basically non-existent now and the camera bump is constantly getting scratched in my pocket. I’ve been looking at the OtterBox Defender and the Mous Limitless 5.0, but I’m worried the OtterBox is too bulky for everyday carry. I saw some Reddit threads saying the Mous offers great drop protection without the extra heft, but I'm not sure if the magsafe strength holds up over time. My budget is around $60 and I need something that won't make the phone feel like a brick. Is the Mous actually durable enough for someone as clumsy as me, or should I just suck it up and go with the bulkier OtterBox?

TL;DR: The Mous is fine for office use, but if you're actually clumsy, get the OtterBox. Everyone pushes Mous Limitless 5.0 for the aesthetic, but the magnets degrade after six months. It isn't as durable as the hype suggests. The OtterBox Defender Series is bulky, but it's the only one that will actually survive a drop on concrete. Skip the marketing fluff and choose based on your actual risk.

^ This. Also, stop overthinking the magnets. If you want real protection without the brick feeling, look at the UAG Monarch Series for iPhone 17e.

  • It uses a five-layer construction including alloy metal hardware.
  • It meets 2x military drop-test standards. Listen, I drop tools on concrete all day. This case takes the impact so the phone doesn't. Skip the fashion cases. Get something with actual frame reinforcement.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I've gone through three OtterBox Defender Series cases over the years—they're indestructible but really do feel like a brick. If you want something slimmer but still tough, look into Spigen Tough Armor or Nomad Modern Leather.

  • Spigen Tough Armor is way cheaper and handles drops better than Mous.
  • Check out Wirecutter’s reviews—they actually stress-test these things. Don't buy into the influencer hype; just get the Spigen.
