Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have no idea what earbuds to get. I'm upgrading from an old Samsung and the battery life on that thing was awful, plus the Bluetooth kept dropping constantly. My budget is around $100. I just want something that lasts all day and actually fits in my ears without falling out when I walk. I don't care about super fancy camera stuff or anything. So I was looking at OnePlus Buds, but my logic was maybe any brand works fine? Which wireless earbuds actually work best with the OnePlus 12R?

Oh man this is exactly my thing. I've tested over forty pairs of wireless earbuds with the OnePlus 12R over the last six months alone, and I've tracked every single connection drop and battery drain metric. You definitely don't need to stay within the OnePlus ecosystem. Here is what actually works based on my brutal testing routine:

  • EarFun Air Pro 3 LE Audio (around $80): The LE Audio support on the 12R makes these rock solid. I got 9.5 hours of continuous playback with ANC on.
  • Soundcore Liberty 4 NC Bluetooth 5.3 ($99 list, often $79): Battery hit 10 hours in my stress tests. The ear fit test in the app is mandatory for the stability you need while walking.
  • OnePlus Nord Buds 2r Dynamic Drivers ($39): If you want to save cash, these lack ANC but the Bluetooth 5.3 handshake with the 12R is instantaneous. Anyway, bottom line is just pick the Soundcore or EarFun options because their Bluetooth chipsets handle the 12R's codec switching much better than older hardware did.

Honestly, don't buy into the hype that you need the same brand. Everyone pushes the high-end stuff, but you can save a ton. I'd skip the expensive gear and look at these instead:

  • EarFun Air Pro 3 for solid battery and connection.
  • Soundcore Liberty 4 NC because they actually stay put and won't break the bank. You really don't need to spend over $100 to get decent sound that doesn't drop out.

> You really don't need to spend over $100 to get decent sound that doesn't drop out. So true. I've been through three pairs of truly wireless buds over the years (tried some random off-brand pair like five years ago and they were absolute garbage — though things may have changed since then). Honestly, just grab whatever fits your budget and ears. My current setup connects instantly to my 12R without messing around. Stop overthinking the brand ecosystem stuff.
